LAMMERSHOEK BARRIQUE CHENIN BLANC 2007

Back in June 2009 I last reviewed this wine. I discovered one left over in my cellar. Ooops. I wouldn’t consider this an aging wine. I quite enjoyed it back then so I was interested to see how it has evolved. Pale in color with some semi sweet honey coming through on the nose. It had some resemblance to a sweeter Riesling on the nose. On the mid pallet are some definitely noticeable sugar, and the wine has gone slightly syrupy in texture. On the finish the wine is medium in length and the alcohol is quite noticeable. There are some caramel, baked apple like flavors on the finish. It reminded me a little of a chard on the finish. Breathing helped the alcohol to become less dominant and warming up also helped soften it. The 2 years this has been sitting have not helped this wine. I didn’t intend to keep it this long. I would give it an 88 or so. Not entirely unenjoyable but not great either.
