Corvidae Rook Merlot 2018

Dark in color with a mild nose. On the mid palate the wine packs a nice punch with some mid weight black berries and chocolate. On the medium length finish the wine displays some nice black pepper and some medium tannins. The tannins and acidity live on nicely in the mouth, nice and dry. This is smack in the middle of the range, no way it’s fruity, but not a Bordeaux style edgy Merlot either. I like it. I would give it an 88 or so. This could hold it’s own with lots of different foods. A little too big for red fish … from the LCBO web site, check stock:

Corvidae Rook Merlot 2018 from LCBO

Sourced from sites planted at elevation in the Colombia Valley, this is a fine example of what Merlot can accomplish in cooler regions. Aged in neutral French oak, it delivers unencumbered bright, lifted red and dark fruit notes framed by spice and tobacco. Fresh, rich and balanced, it has quite wide appeal and will be perfect for grilled ribs or lamb burgers.
