2010 Windy Peak Pinot Noir

Garnet in color with a mild nose. On the mid pallet this wine displays some strong strawberry along with some rustic notes. On the medium finish this wine is backed by some firm tannins. I would give this wine an 88. Not a bad deal for the price.

From the LCBO web site:
DE BORTOLI WINDY PEAK PINOT NOIR 2010 VINTAGES 48587 | 750 mL bottle Price $ 17.95
Made in: Victoria, Australia By: De Bortoli Wines
Release Date: Jul 21, 2012
13.0% Alcohol/Vol. Sweetness Descriptor: D – Dry

Tasting Note
Light colour, good hue, although not bright; not only is the pinot noir varietal character clear to see, but there seems to be a significant Yarra Valley component; the wine is savoury more than fruity, simply adding to its suitability for food. Drink by 2014. Score – 89. (James Halliday, winecompanion.com.au, Oct. 25,. 2011).

From the Winery’s web site:
Region: Victoria
Appearance: Medium red in colour with a purple hue.
Bouquet: Complex cherry like Pinot fruit aroma.
Palate: The palate shows good concentration of typical Pinot Noir characters. These include cherries and strawberries. There is underlying spicey characters which increase complexity.

Vintage Conditions: The 2009 – 2010 growing season saw our earliest budburst for sometime. Timely rainfall received in early summer gave the vineyard some relief from a dry winter & spring. Conditions for ripening of Pinot Noir were ideal with warm days & cool nights. Fruit was picked in optimal condition.

Winemaking: Fruit parcels are selected and picked to maximise fruit flavour. The fruit is both hand and machine harvested with a small percentage of the hand harvested used for whole bunch inclusion. A combination of winemaking techniques are used to produce a final blend with complexity and balance. These include cold maceration prior to fermentation, inclusion of whole bunches and warm fermentation 30˚C to 32˚C. The components remain separate until final blending. Minimal handling and filtration is adopted to preserve fruit flavour.

Wine Analysis: Alc/Vol: 13.0% v/v pH: 3.65 TA: 6.0g/L
Cellaring: This wine is made for early consumption and will mature well over the next 2-3 years in a good cellar.
Suggested Cuisine: Enjoy with pasta dishes
General Characteristics: Dry Medium Bodied

2008 Tahblik Shiraz

Dark in color with a nice rich nose of black berries. On the mid pallet the wine displays black berries to match the nose. On the medium length finish the wine displays some nice tannins and some pepper that build nicely in the mouth. I would give this wine a solid 89. Not a bad deal for the price!

From the LCBO web site:

Sugar Content: 5 g/L Sweetness Descriptor: D – Dry

Tasting Note
The 2008 Shiraz reveals a deep garnet-purple color and notes of dried plums, blackberry and black cherry preserves and mulberries over chocolate, aniseed, tar and damp earth. Very crisp and full bodied in the mouth, it provides firm, tight-knit tannins and a good amount of black berry and earthy flavors that linger long into the finish. Approachable now, it should drink well to 2016. Score – 91. (Lisa Perrotti-Brown, MW, erobertparker.com, June 2011)

2001 Elderton Barossa Shiraz

I pulled this one out of my cellar after 9 years of patience! Inky dark in color, so much so that the cork was practically black! The nose displays some lovely black fruits. On the mid pallet the wine is still displaying some beautiful jammy black berries to go along with the nose. Straight out of the bottle there are still some lovely peppery notes, some acidity, some nice tannins and a hint of alcohol on a medium finish. This wine still has some legs on it. With a bit of breathing the edgeness on the finish faded leaving only the lovely black berries to be appreciated! The original write up I had for it said it would keep until 2015 and I can believe it. And maybe even more. I would give this wine a solid 91-92. Yummy. My patience was very rewarded!

2010 Tar and Roses Shiraz

Dark in color with a nice nose of dark berries. On the mid pallet the wine displays dark berries, and blueberries to match the nose. On the medium length finish the wine displays some nice dryness and firm tannins along with some noticeable alcohol. This wine needs some time to breath or a bit of ageing. I would give it an 88-89. Yumm. Sadly little is left in the province 🙁

From the LCBO web site:
TAR & ROSES SHIRAZ 2010 VINTAGES 282731 | 750 mL bottle Price $ 18.60
Made in: Victoria, Australia By: Endeavour Wines Pty Ltd.
Release Date: Aug 18, 2012
14.5% Alcohol/Vol.
Sugar Content: 6 g/L Sweetness Descriptor: XD – Extra Dry

Tasting Note
Spectacular Aussie cool-climate Shiraz that says French Syrah more than Oz Shiraz. Aromas of blackberry, white pepper, vanilla and sandalwood are classically on display. Dry, intensely fruity yet astoundingly light on its feet, with a firm tannin grip and pretty acid lift on the mid-palate. This graceful and elegant wine demonstrates perfectly this fresh style of the cooler Victoria region. Perfect for grilled lamb with rosemary and garlic. (VINTAGES panel, June 2012)

From the winery’s web site:
The grapes for this wine came from a combination of vineyards. They were all kept separately during their fermentation and maturation lives. The machine harvested volumes were crushed and de-stemmed into vinimatic fermenters and spun twice a day. After ten days fermentation, during which time the temperature and acid levels were monitored constantly, they were individually pressed to tank using an air bag press. Finally the wine was racked off gross lees and put into barrel to finish malolactic fermentation and mature in a combination of new French and older barriques for 12 months.
12 months in oak with 24% new French oak component.
Alcohol 14.5% pH 3.48 Acid 6.8g/L Sugar <1.0g/L

Deep crimson.

Nose: Intense black cherry aromas coupled with lifted raspberry notes, a compote of summer berries. Supported by hints of vanilla, chocolate and earthy complexity. Palate: Sweet black cherry fruit flavour with chalky cocoa-like chocolatey tannin. This plus good acid and length gives a well balanced palate. Food Pairing: Char grilled lamb cutlets with homemade tomato sauce.

Wine Makers comments: As with previous vintages the wines come from two main vineyards, one off the deep red Cambrian soil while the other comes from tougher more gravelly ground. The first gives us a wine rich, chocolatey and earthy while the other has more high fragrant berry notes with good acid and sweet fruit. The wine that results is our take on Heathcote shiraz.

2012 Megalomaniac Pink Slip Rose

Bias up front, I’m not a big Rose lover. This one is pinot noir based. Light in color with a mild nose. On the mid pallet the wine displays some nice light fruity flavors, think strawberries. The wine is on the light side on the finish with not a lot going on. The sugar and alcohol are well under control. This would be a very good patio wine for sitting on the patio and sipping. Quite refreshing served cold. For what it is I would give it an 87-88. Just don’t look for a great deal of complexity out of this wine and it might be just what your looking for!

From the LCBO web site (for a different year than I tasted):
MEGALOMANIAC PINK SLIP PINOT NOIR ROSÉ 2011 VINTAGES 85126 | 750 mL bottle Price $ 17.95

Release Date: May 12, 2012
14.0% Alcohol/Vol. Sugar Content: 15 g/L Sweetness Descriptor: XD – Extra Dry

Tasting Note
The natural beguiling qualities of Pinot Noir translate very well here to make an inspired rosé. Attractive light salmon pink colour leads to aromas of wild strawberry, blueberry, spring flowers and tangerine. Fairly dry with a blast of pretty fruit flavours followed by super refreshing acidity. There’s even a hint of tannin holding the whole package together. The finish is round and fruity. Try with grilled lamb chops. (VINTAGES panel, March 2012)

RABL KÄFERBERG GRÜNER VELTLINER 2011

Pale in color with a lovely nose of minerality. On the mid pallet the wine displays some light minerally notes to match the nose along with some lime. The wine is on the lighter side of medium in length with some of the lime lingering. I would give it an 88 or so. Not the best Gruner but not the worst either.

Past vintages of this yet-to-be-reviewed wine showcase an impressive history. The 2010 vintage of this single-vineyard Grüner Veltliner added a rating of 4 stars (out of 5) from the 2012 Decanter World Wine Awards to an already impressive catalogue of international honours that date back to 1950.

Tasting Note
Aromas of white flowers, apples, melon, minerality and spice engage the senses here. The palate is again quite fruity with a burst of refreshing acidity. The lovely smoky mineral note really strands out. Pair this impressive wine with chicken schnitzel or trout. (VINTAGES panel, Nov. 2012)

2008 Ravine Vineyards Merlot

A short review of a good wine from a very inconsistent vintage. Ravine Vineyards is a small boutique winery sitting in the heart of St David’s. Maybe not well known, it has increasingly upped its quality over the past five years. Add an evening at their fabulous restaurant and you can get the full winery experience.

This merlot is in its sweet spot for drinking. Fruit is still ripe to your palate yet it is subtle enough to give you the feeling of maturity. Black cherry and leather are the two principle flavours with hints of cocoa. A wine that left great tastes in our mouthes and sediment in the glasses. Very enjoyable.

The CWG subjective rating is 87 out of 100.

2010 Megalomaniac Big Mouth Merlot

Bias up front I have a real hang up when it comes to Merlot. I like mine fruity, with lots of plum. My experience says Niagara Merlots rarely are like this. This one is dark in color with a mild nose. On the mid palate the wine displays some red berries, but sadly no plum (IMHO). On the finish the wine displays some tannins, some spicy notes along with some acidity on a medium length finish. I would give the wine an 88 or so.

2011 Fielding Cab Franc

I love travelling down to Niagara and went down with a group this past weekend and had to stop by Fielding. I’ve been impressed with a number of their wines of late. The 2011 Pinot Gris was nice, the 2010 Fireside Red is a terrific deal and the now unavailable 2012 Cab Syrah was also very good. So when we were heading down to Niagara Fielding was a MUST visit part of the trip! Niagara IMHO does a terrific job of cab Francs. They are spot on varietal.

This one is dark in color with a lovely rich varietal Cab Franc nose. On the mid pallet the wine displays some varietal cab franc fruit, red fruits, and some nice mocha. On the finish the wine displays some firm tannins, some big dryness and some pallet coating flavors that linger in the mouth. This is a BIG cab Franc, the way Niagara does well. I really enjoyed this wine. It’s still young, but as long as you like big wines it’s approachable now. It will keep for a quite a while and I suspect it will settle down and the fruit will be more noticeable. I would give this a solid 89-90. For $22.15 this wine is a bargain.

From the Fielding web site:
Deep red in colour with a youthful purple rim, the nose of this wine is quite
expressive with violets, wild blueberry, cedar-smoke, and dark chocolate. Midweight on the palate with fine-grained tannins and a lengthy, spice-filled finish.

Awards & Accolades
Calling all Cabernet Franc lovers, this is a wonderfully flavourful, deftly crafted red. Complex aromas include a floral note, hints of roasted red pepper, mineral and sweet spice and a rush of red berry. Dry, medium bodied and tangy, displaying firm tannins, lively acidity and depth of red and black berry fruit. Spice, herbal notes and a hint of chocolate add complexity, garnishing the long-lasting, earthy, flavourful finish. Serve with grilled meats

Tasting Note
Very complex nose with strawberry-rhubarb, baking spices, wild raspberry and red pepper. The palate is juicy, savoury and uninhibited. Still young, with grippy tannins you could easily put this one aside for another year. Decant for 2 hours and enjoy tonight with pork burgers, steak and grilled red peppers. 2010 Liberty School Cab Sauv

Dark in color with a mild nose. On the mid pallet the wine has some dark berries and cassis coming through. The fruit on this one is quite nice. The wine is medium in length on the finish displaying some nice smooth tannins and a bit of dryness. We paired it with a steak and it went well. I would give it an 88-89. Not a bad cab at all!

CHÂTEAU MONT-REDON CHÂTEAUNEUF-DU-PAPE 2009 mini review

I tasted this one at an LCBO tasting bar. Very dark in color with a mild nose of dark berries. On the mid pallet the wine has some subtle fruit, dark berries coming through. On the finish the wine displays some lovely dryness, and some silky smooth tannins on a long finish. The wine builds very nicely in the mouth that coat the pallet. This wine has some nice complexity. This particular wine lives largely in the finish. If the fruit was bigger it would be amazing. I don’t think ageing is going to help as I would expect the fruit to die down some. I would give it an 89-90. Very nice.

Tasting Note
Offers anise, blackberry cobbler and roasted fig notes nicely melded together, framed by enticing incense and toasted apple wood notes, with a long, fine-grained finish. Not big, but has the balance to last for a while. Best from 2014 through 2025. Score – 91. (James Molesworth, winespectator.com, July 31, 2012)

2011 Dreaming Tree Red Crush

Another one from the Toronto Wine and Spirits show. This one is a general list item at the LCBO. Dark in color with a mild fruity nose. On the mid pallet the wine displays some nice red berries, and cherries to match the nose. The wine at first seems quite mild but it starts to build nicely in the mouth. There’s some nice dryness on the medium length finish along with some tannins and some acidity. I would give it an 88-89. I think this wine is a bit too young. Give it another 6 months to a year and I bet it would be a lot better.

DOMAINE DE LA CHARBONNIÈRE CHÂTEAUNEUF-DU-PAPE 2010 mini review

I tasted this one at an LCBO tasting bar. Dark in color with a nice nose of red berries and cassis coming through. On the mid pallet this wine displays some lovely red berries and cassis to match the nose. Very varietal for the Rhone area Chateauneuf Du Pape area. On the medium length finish the wine displays some lovely dryness and smooth tannins. I would give this a solid 90. Very nice wine.

Style: Full-bodied & Smooth 14.0% Alcohol/Vol. Sugar Content: 6 g/L Sweetness Descriptor: D – Dry

Tasting Note
The 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape is both a strong effort and a terrific value. Its dark ruby/purple color is followed by lots of loamy soil, underbrush, forest floor, kirsch, licorice and roasted meat characteristics. Full-bodied and layered, the wine builds incrementally in the mouth exhibiting considerable purity, length and texture. It should drink nicely for 10-15 years. Score – 91. Napa cellars 2011 Chardonnay

Happy Canada day weekend one and all from CWG and I!

Pale to golden in color with a lovely varietal chard nose. On the mid pallet this wine is smack on varietal California chard. This one is displaying some very nice bold fruit, some butter and some vanilla. Oak and alcohol are well under control. This is a well made wine. It lingers nicely in the mouth for a medium length finish. I would give this a 90. Yum. Now comes the question of value. Two of my favourite chards are Chateau St Jean at 19.95 or Sterling at 14.95. So while its good the value equation is a tough sell.

From the lcbo web site:

Description
This consistent Napa Chardonnay evokes apple and lime notions with intriguing tropical mango complexities. Butter and vanilla notes are prominently featured adding the finishing touches to the aroma cache. On the palate focused oak supports the rich fruit flavours. Ideal for seafood appetizers, grilled chicken, or pork.

2012 Wakefield Merlot

Ok as usual, I like to put my bias up front. For some bizarre reason when it comes to Merlot I like them varietal. And for me that means plum. So when I saw plum in the description in thought I would give them a try. To date my favourite Merlots are from California and Australia. I like them fruity and therefore generally younger. Aging just looses the fruit. Ok onto the wine. Inky dark in color with a mild nose of plum. Straight out of the bottle the mid pallet displays some plum along with a quick hit of firm tannins, peppery spicy notes typical of Aussie terroir and noticeable alcohol. After some breathing the tannins, spice and alcohol all die down and to allow you to more fully appreciate the lovely black fruits and plum of the mid pallet. This wine is either too young or you need to let it breath to properly appreciate it. I would give it an 88 or so. If you have some patience I bet a year will make a whole lot of difference on this wine.

Update: Well I came back to this bottle a couple days after I had opened it, and what a difference. It is a spot on varietal plum, fruit forward merlot. The edgyness on the finish had passed. This would support the fact it needs to age. After this I would bump the rating up to an 89-90. Much better.

From the lcbo web site:
WAKEFIELD MERLOT 2012 VINTAGES 683201 | 750 mL bottle Price $ 17.95

Release Date: Jun 22, 2013
Style: Medium-bodied & Fruity 14.5% Alcohol/Vol.
Sugar Content: 5 g/L Sweetness Descriptor: D – Dry

Tasting Note
Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2012 Merlot offers a nose of crushed black plums, blackberries and mulberries with hints of mace, vanilla and violets. Medium-bodied, it gives a good amount of spicy black fruit flavors in the mouth with a light touch of oak, framed by a medium level of chewy tannins and medium to high acid, finishing with medium to long persistence. Drink it now through 2015+. Score – 88. (Lisa Perrotti-Brown, MW, erobertparker.com, Dec. 2012)

Francis Coppola Diamond Collection Ivory Label Cab Saub 2011 mini review

We stopped by the Cornwall LCBO location in Oakville and discovered they have a new tasting bar, complete with an Enomatic wine dispenser I first encountered at Corks!
a
What they are doing is running tastings throughout the week of a number of the bi-weekly vintages features allowing you to buy a roughly 1 ounce tasting of the wine in a try before you buy! An exciting new idea! Walk ins are limited to 4 tastings at a time. It turns out there are also ones at Summerhill and Queens Quay.
Additionally, the Cornwall store offer on the Thursday before the release, for $5 a tasting of 6 wines chosen by the the product specialists in a guided tasting. Very cool! Be sure and check it out!

So we tasted this one at the event. Dark in color, with an oaky nose along with some red berries coming through. On the mid pallet the wine displays some nice red berries and cassis to match the nose. On the finish the wine has some peppery, spicy notes along with some firm acidity and some tannins. The finish on the wine is medium in length. I would give this wine a solid 89. I bet if you decanted it or aged it (and it seems to me to be an age able wine) the acidity would calm a bit allowing you to better appreciate the fruit of this wine. It’s just a bit too young for my tastes. That or you need to serve it with some hearty foods.

2010 Zantho St Laurent mini review

Another one from the Toronto Food and Spirits festival. I’ve enjoyed exploring Austia’s most common white wine, Gruner Veltliner so when I was at the festival they had a St Laurent (also from Austria) so I gave it a try. St Laurent is related to Pinot Noir. Dark in color with a mild varietal Pinot noir nose. On the mid pallet the wine displays some earthy notes, and some rustic notes. The wine is on the lighter side of medium in length on the finish with some nice dryness. I would give it an 88-89.

From the LCBO web site:
ZANTHO ST. LAURENT 2010 VINTAGES 315556 | 750 mL bottle Price $ 15.95
Made in: Burgenland, Austria By: Josef Umathum & Wolfgang Peck
Release Date: May 11, 2013
Style: Light-bodied & Fruity 13.0% Alcohol/Vol.
Sugar Content: 4 g/L Sweetness Descriptor: XD – Extra Dry

Tasting Note
From one of Austria’s most renowned producers, this is a great introduction to the highly aromatic Saint Laurent grape. Such lovely floral aromas, it’s like bottled spring, but hold on — that’s just the start, there’s a good whack of red fruit, cherry, and plum notes as well. Made in an easy-drinking and approachable style that pleases from beginning to end. Try it with a spiced pork dish. (VINTAGES panel, Aug. 2012)

From Noteworthy wines:
The St Laurent grape is a relative newcomer to the Ontario marketplace. St Laurent is similar to Pinot Noir: it ripens early, has lighter, red fruit notes and has less sugar. This grape is gaining in popularity because it is ‘warmer’ than Pinot Noir and is being tested in several Ontario vineyards. It’s delicious on its own, goes well with ‘comfort food’ or can be enjoyed with a wide selection of meat dishes or cheese.

ROSEWOOD SÉMILLON 2011 mini review

Bias up front, I’m not a fan of Semillon. Pale in color with a mild nose, with some floral notes consistent with a Semillon coming through. On the mid pallet the wine displays some almost chard like notes along with some sweetness (maybe honey like). I found it a bit difficult to place. On the finish the wine is dominated by some strong spicy notes along with some firm acidity. For me this wine was a fight going on in my mouth between the racy finish the sweetness in the mid pallet. The finish is on the lighter side of medium in length. I have to say, I’m not a fan of this wine. Some ageing might allow this wine to be more homogeneous. I would give it an 88 or so for now …

From the LCBO web site:
ROSEWOOD SÉMILLON 2011 VINTAGES 177758 | 750 mL bottle Price $ 17.95

Tasting Note
This single-vineyard, 100 per cent Semillon is Rosewood’s fourth vintage of the variety. I think it has the stuff to age for three or four years, but you might prefer it now, while it’s relatively young. It delivers beautiful fresh fruit flavour, sweet at the core and layered throughout, and a spine of bright acidity that contributes juiciness to the texture. Overall, it’s a great success. Score – 4 1/2 Stars (out of 5). (Rod Phillips, rodphillipsonwine.com, Feb. 15, 2013)

2011 Kilikanoon Killerma’s Run Shiraz

Dark in color with a mild nose of black berries. On the mid pallet the wine displays some mild blueberries. On the medium length finish the wine has some nice varietal pepper and spice, along with some tannins. This is a smooth mild Shiraz. Alcohol is nicely under control. I understand that 2011 was a VERY wet year in Australia leading to milder wines. That definitely seems to be the case on this one. I would give it an 88-89.

2010 Smoke & Gamble Reserve Cab/Merlot mini review

This wine is from Port Dover? I have to admit I had no idea there were wineries in Port Dover! I tasted this one at the Toronto Wine and Spirit Festival. This wine is a blend of 49.5% Merlot, 37.2% Cab Franc, and 13.3% Cab Sauv. Dark in color with a nice nose of red berries, consistent with a cab. I don’t get much merlot off the nose. On the mid pallet the wine displays some nice red berries, cherries to match the nose. The wine is one the lighter side of medium in length with some gentle tannins and some nice dryness that builds in the mouth. I have to say I was quite surprised by this wine. I’d love to find a bottle to do a more thorough review of the wine and see how it holds up to to food. I would give this wine an 88-89. Given the price it’s not a bad deal. Checkout the winery’s web site for more info.

Tasting Note
Very deep ruby in appearance. The nose offers up suggestions of red and black currants with red and black cherry, all accented by vanilla and cocoa notes. So smooth in the mouth! The lovely mouthfeel is further enhanced by structured tannins. Ripe, approachable and very well put together. This is one to be excited about, especially alongside beef skewers, fajitas or steak-topped pizza. (VINTAGES panel, March 2013)

GUENOC CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2010

Dark in color with a funky earthy nose right out of the bottle. This passes relatively quickly leaving a mild varietal cab nose with some black berries. On the mid pallet the wine displays some varietal cab flavours and some nice deep black berries to match the nose. On the medium length finish the wine displays some spicy notes, some pepper and some firm tannins. I would give it an 88-89.

2009 Calamus Pinot Noir

Another one from our visit to the Calamus winery. Garnet in color with a light varietal pinot noir nose. On the mid pallet the wine is much bigger than the nose would otherwise indicate. It’s got some lovely rustic notes, some nice strawberry flavors, and some earthy notes backed by some firm tannins and some acidity. The taste lingers nicely in the mouth leaving some nice rustic flavors that coat the mouth. I would give it an 88-89. Interestingly complex for the price! Sadly, not available in the LCBO but is available at the winery for $17.20 a bottle which in my mind is a good deal! Yumm. We paired it with Upper Canada Cheese Company’s Niagara gold and Cornish hen. It paired very well. I find pinot Noirs and foul go very well together!

2009 Cannonball Cab Sauv

We stopped by Far Niente and this wine was on the by the glass menu so I thought I’d give it a try. Dark in color with a nice nose of red berries and some oak. On the mid pallet this wine is a big bold fruit forward California style cab with lots of red berries to match the nose, and some nice cassis. On the medium length finish the wine displays some nice smooth tannins to finish off a well made cab! I would give this a solid 90! Yummy.

2012 BOTTEGA VINO DEI POETI PROSECCO

Pale in color with nice mild nose of minerality and citrus notes. On the mid pallet this is another lovely prosecco displaying nice citrus notes to match the nose, and a hint of honeysuckle. The bubbles are nice and fine making this a wine that is very food friendly. I would put this wine anywhere you would a sauv blanc. Or just as a sipper before dinner. The wine is on the lighter side of medium in length with some nice mouth grip that builds nicely especially without food. There’s a hint of some acidity there but not in a bad way. I would give this a solid 89. For the money this is another great deal. For a guy (me) who doesn’t like bubbly I must say I am enjoying proseccos! Thanks to my Italian friends for introducing me to these and to their relatives for making them 🙂

JIP JIP ROCKS SHIRAZ 2010 mini review

Dark in color with a nose of oak and some black berries coming through. On the mid pallet this wine is overshadowed by loads of alcohol, and some black berries to match the nose. On the finish this wine is dominated by firm acidity. To my tastes this is not a great Some breathing would definitely help. I think largely this wine is just too young. But either way the fruit was either overwhelmed or mild. I would give this maybe an 88. I would absoloutely not be running out to grab more of this and if I had bought more I would take it back. Just not too my tastes. If you do keep it be sure and pair it with big bold meats, lamb, steak etc. Or not a chance your tasting your food.

Tasting Note
Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2010 Shiraz gives pronounced notes of warm blackcurrant, crushed blueberries and black pepper with hints of tar, mocha and loam. Medium to full bodied, it fills the mouth with peppered black berry flavors supported by a medium level of rounded tannins, lively acid and finishing long. Drinking now, it should remain good to 2015. Score – 89. (Lisa Perrotti-Brown, MW, erobertparker.com, Feb. 2012)
