Valdelacierva Crianza 2016

Dark in color with a dark berry nose. On the mid palate the wine packs a punch with noticeable alcohol straight out of the bottle, along with dark fruits, smokey, oak and spicy notes. The alcohol eased with breathing and was less harsh after about half an hour. On the medium length finish the dark berry notes and tannins stick to the palate leaving some nice dryness and acidity. I would give this an 87-88, a bit of a sharp wine, I won’t be running back for a case … From the LCBO web site check stock:

I’ll be honest and up front, there isn’t a chance I would pay the original price $34.95 let along the reduced price of $28.25 but when I was in my local LCBO they had this one for $19.95 so I jumped … Pale salmon in color with a nice crisp minerally nose. On the mid palate the wine packs a punch with crisp, dry cranberry and tart notes that coat the palate beautifully, especially without food. On the medium length finish the wine displays lovely citrus notes and vibrant acidity with the citrus notes lingering. This is a lovely, crisp, dry food friendly bundle of yum. Poggio al Tufo Vermentino 2020

I enjoy Vermentinos, crisp dry flavorful wines, we don’t get enough of them, so when one comes in, as long as the sugar content is low, I grab them … This one is pale straw in color with a nice minerally nose. On the mid palate the wine packs a punch with crisp dry minerality and citrus/lime notes. On the medium length finish the wine displays some lovely vibrant acidity and crisp dryness along with green apple tart notes. This is NOT a soft wimpy wine, sipped on it’s own it’s got some boisterous flavors. We paired it with a bacon quiche and it went well, with food it softened. I really like this wine and for the price it’s a great deal. It’s more of a drink now but could last as much as a couple years, I’ll definitely go back and grab some more! Airfield Yakima Valley Chardonnay 2020

Pale straw in color, the first thing that hits the nose straight out of the bottle is bubble gum, not really strong but noticeable. On the mid palate the wine displays more citrus minerally notes Vs creamy/caramel/oak/buttery notes. This defiitely do my tastes leans more to an unoaked than an oaked chard. It’s not horrible, it’s just not what I’d hoped for. I would give it an 87+. 2017 Tommasi Amarone della Valpolicella Classico

I have to admit, Amarone’s are not a wine I have a lot of experience, and given the importance of pairing food/wine to me, I struggled with the best place to put this wine, it was a gift from Dale/Lori! … I chose to have it with rabbit stew, as my wine instructor loved to say, if it grows together it goes together. So happy Thursday let’s crack this puppy! Ink dark in color with a mild nose, which btw is about all that is mild about this wine. On the mid palate the wine displays some firm crisp peppery and spicy notes along with some rich deep, dark berry notes. This wine does NOT display the bold dried fruits that often accompany apassimento wines, sometimes so strong you feel like your sucking on a raisin. On the medium length finish the wine displays strong spicy notes, nice dryness, and tannins. This is a lovely wine, I would give it an 88 or so … the kind of wine that could have you embracing Appasimento’s thanks Dale/Lori! from the LCBO web site check stock:

Our Barrel Aged Chardonnay follows the guiding philosophy: oak should be to wine as seasoning is to food—enough to add interest and complexity but not so much that it overwhelms. This is the Strewn Chardonnay with the lightest amount of oak presence.

Wine Specs: Vintage2019VarietalChardonnayAppellationVQA Niagara PeninsulaBrix at Harvest 22.1°

Residual Sweetness8.8 g/L

Alcohol %12.5Wine

ProfileTasting Notes: Aromas of vanilla, peach, pear and toasty oak with a smooth, rich texture and a long, refreshing citrus finish.

Winemaker Notes: The winemaking team works with a combination of new, one and two-year old (or older) barrels from oak grown in France, the United States and Canada. Some of the wine is fermented then aged in barrels; a portion is fermented in stainless steel then transferred to barrel for aging. The diversity adds complexity, flavour notes and balance.

Food Pairing Notes: A lovely versatile wine, this lighter Chardonnay goes well with white meats (try with Chicken Fried Rice) and creamy dishes (a simple Mac ‘n Cheese).

Château Bel Air Perponcher Réserve 2018

Inky dark in color with a nice black berry and cherry nose. On the mid palate the wine packs a punch with black berries and cherries to match the nose along with some strong spicy notes. On the medium length finish the wine displays some peppery notes, and firm acidity, super dry. This wine is a bit young, I won’t say it’s harsh, but close. Some time in a decanter might help. I would give it an 87-88 … If you buy it, I would recommend waiting at least a year or more. From the LCBO web site, check stock:

Château Bel Air Perponcher Réserve 2018 from LCBO

The Despagne family has resided in Entre-Deux-Mers for over 200 years. Situated between Bordeaux’s famous waterways the Garonne and the Dordogne, the region is best known for its white wines, but it’s also home to excellent reds such as this Merlot-based blend. Look for dark cherry, blackcurrant and cedar notes and pair with herbed roast beef or lamb.

Château Mirambeau Papin 2016

Dark in color with a mild black berry nose. On the mid palate the wine matches the nose with dark berries along with some noticeable oak nots, especially fresh out of the bottle. On the medium length finish the dark dark berries linger nicely along with some mocha notes and smooth, dusty tannins, and nice acidity that coat the mouth. This is a lovely entry level Bordeaux superiore for a reasonable price. I won’t rush out and grab a case but it’s nice none the less. We paired it with LCBO slow cooker lamb shanks and it went well! from the lcbo web site, check stock:

Ardal Crianza 2014

Dark in color with a mild black berry nose. On the mid palate the wine displays black cherries, firm oak notes along with some mocha. On the medium length finish the wine displays some with some strong peppery notes, dusty tannins and firm acidity … super dry. This is more of an edgy wine, not subtle. We paired it with a filet mignon and it was a little large for it. I would give it an -88 … Classic Crianza. From the LCBO web site, check stock:

Ardal Crianza 2014 from LCBO

This black-colored crianza delivers big, toasty aromas of charred oak, setting the stage for a massive palate, the equivalent of an 18-wheeler. Blackened flavors of burnt wood, coffee and berry fruit lead to a smacking tannic finish. Drink date: 2020-2025. Score – 91. (Michael Schachner, Wine Enthusiast, Sept. 1, 2017)

Lundy Manor Lundy Red 2016

I’ve seen this winery mentioned a number of times in LCBO releases and wondered, well this time my curiosity got the better of me. The blend looks good, g/l look inviting to so I jumped … Spoiler alert … DON’T … Dark in color with a sweet dried cherry nose. On the mid palate the wine matches the nose with kit wine level refinement and sweetness that at a $12 price point would be expected, but at this price point … Wines that I feel are very notable earn a yum rating, ya this is so isn’t that and this would earn a YUCK rating. I had filet mignon on the menu for dinner and when I opened this, ya that wasn’t happening, I put the cork back on and opened a different bottle. And to add insult to injury I had a sneezing fit, a statement of high sulphite levels in the wine. If I had more I would return EVERY ONE of them. From the LCBO web site, ya not even going to give you the link it’s that bad.

Lundy Manor Lundy Red 2016 from LCBO

This is a Cabernet Franc-led wine, with Merlot, Syrah and Petit Verdot rounding out the blend. It was aged in a combination of French and American oak and is an aromatic, fruity wine, with cherry, plum, vanilla, and a dash of baking spice.
